The Penguin classroom is designed to meet the needs of the rapidly developing 3-6-year-old children. Our prepared environment is equipped with child-sized furniture and classroom materials placed at the eye level of a child, creating an environment in which children can freely explore and quench their curiosity without being dependent on the adult.
Our classroom is a nurturing environment, which addresses all aspects of a child’s emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development. The focus of our classroom is the child and learning is individualized. Children take responsibility for their learning, become independent, and are creative in their work. They are encouraged to follow their interests, a key indicator in students’ enjoying school and becoming life-long learners. Children are in control and responsible for making choices throughout the day. Our classroom has a wide variety of specific Montessori materials for hands-on exploration and a Montessori-trained staff that facilitates a child’s trust in him/herself through risk-taking, further questioning, and skill development. At Penguin class, children learn through experimentation and repetition in many different areas of life: Practical Life (Care of Self, Environment, Grace, and Courtesy), Language, Mathematics, Science, Music, Art, Geography, and History. The curriculum provides a progressive educational foundation as well as integration with real-life experiences and is implemented with respect to varying learning styles and natural human development. In our class, children are able to be their unique selves. Our teachers get to know each child on a deep level and because of this; children are given the responsibility of making their own learning choices throughout the day with the support and guidance of their teachers.
